Frequently asked Questions
Is this a prescription product?
Yes. If your prescriber issues a plan, every component is a scheduled medicine compounded individually for you by a SAPC-licensed pharmacy.
Can I just buy without a consultation or script from my doctor?
No. We don’t sell prescription weight-management medicines off-the-shelf. A consultation with a registered medical practitioner is required by law and by our prescribers.
How long until I see a difference?
Your prescriber will discuss realistic expectations during your consultation. Sustainable weight loss is a months-long process, not a week-long one. We don’t quote average outcomes on this page — they vary too much to be meaningful, and we’d rather your prescriber give you an honest answer in context.
What if I'm not a candidate?
our prescriber may decline to issue a prescription for your safety. The consultation fee covers the clinical review whether or not a script is issued. No medicine is dispensed without a valid prescription.
Is this compounded or registered medicine?
Some preparations dispensed through Dr Peptide are compounded individually under your prescriber’s instruction by a SAPC-licensed pharmacy and are not registered with SAHPRA. Compounded medicines are supplied only on the basis of an individual prescription written for a specific patient.
Where can I read more?
Our Education library covers weight management, metabolic health and the science of appetite regulation. Educational reading is not medical advice and is not a substitute for a consultation.

Further Information
What this protocol is — and what it isn't
Is: A medically supervised path for adults with a clinical reason to consider prescription weight management — typically a BMI threshold or a weight-related comorbidity that your prescriber will assess.
Isn’t: A cosmetic weight-loss product. A vanity injection. A substitute for nutrition, sleep and movement. A guarantee of any particular outcome.
Your prescriber will discuss expectations honestly during your consultation. Many people are good candidates. Some are not. We’d rather decline than over-promise.
Who this protocol is for
- Adults with a clinically relevant weight-loss goal under medical guidance
- People who have tried lifestyle change and want medically supervised support
- Adults with weight-related metabolic concerns flagged by their GP
- Adults transitioning off another medication and seeking ongoing support
Who this protocol is not for
- Anyone under 18
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- People with a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN-2 (your prescriber will screen)
- Active eating disorder — please speak with a specialist clinician
- Anyone seeking aesthetic rather than clinical weight loss
Why a consultation, not a checkout?
Compounded weight-management medicines are scheduled and require a doctor’s prescription by South African law. Your prescriber will assess whether this is the right intervention for you, what dose is appropriate, and what a sensible review schedule looks like. A consultation is a clinical decision, not a sales step.

South African medicines regulation limits the information we can share publicly about prescription treatments. Your prescribing doctor will discuss ingredients, mechanisms, potential benefits, and side effects during your consultation.

What is NAD+?
NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme found in every living cell. It’s essential for converting food into energy, repairing DNA, and regulating hundreds of cellular processes. NAD+ levels decline naturally with age, which is why there’s growing interest in whether supplementing precursors like NMN or NR, or receiving NAD+ intravenously, might support metabolic and cellular health.

What is Glutathione?
Glutathione is a tripeptide antioxidant made from three amino acids—glutamine, cysteine, and glycine—that your body produces naturally in every cell. It plays essential roles in neutralising free radicals, detoxification, immune function, and cellular repair. While oral supplementation shows modest bioavailability, intravenous glutathione has become popular for off-label uses including skin lightening, anti-ageing, and detoxification support, though the evidence base for many of these applications remains thin. In South Africa, intravenous glutathione is not a registered medicine for these indications, and any supply must comply with SAHPRA compounding regulations.

What are peptides?
Peptides are short chains of amino acids — the building blocks of proteins — typically containing between 2 and 50 amino acids linked together. They act as signalling molecules in your body, telling cells what to do: when to grow, when to repair, when to release hormones, when to reduce inflammation. Your body makes thousands of peptides naturally, and synthetic versions of some of these are used in medicine and compounded therapy.
